Lily took the pen. Her hand shook violently as she looked down at the empty line. Eleanor’s sharp eyes were boring into her, but for the first time, Lily hesitated to obey. She looked from the pen to her mother’s furious, controlled face, then down at the small, perfect face of her daughter.
Finally, she began to write.
