Disconnection
Sitting beside Liam, I noticed his complete indifference to the game that usually captivated him.

“Is there something on your mind, Liam?” He responded with a simple shrug, still not meeting my eye. It felt like an invisible barrier stood between us. A mix of worry and desperation grew in me, but I was determined to find a way to reach him.
The monotonous click of the buttons echoed in the silence, devoid of any real energy. I asked cautiously.
Conversation About School
I decided to try a different angle, thinking that a neutral topic like school might break the ice. “So, did anything exciting happen in class?” I asked, trying to sound lighthearted.

Liam merely gave a short nod, but his lips were pressed together and his eyes remained fixed on his lap. The silence that followed seemed thick with unasked questions. I took a deep breath, knowing we had to tear down this wall, even though it was clearly going to be difficult.
Building a Wall
As I sat there with Liam, I knew something was profoundly bothering him. I insisted softly.
He just nodded, his gaze fixed on his shoes. Marcus let out a gentle sigh, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. Anxiety tightened in my chest, but Liam remained unreachable, as if safeguarding a private world of his own.

He was so guarded that he seemed to have erected a fortress between us. “You know you can tell me anything, right?”
