Discussing Liam
“Marcus, have you noticed that he’s been acting strangely lately?” I asked with caution.
He answered with a casual shrug, almost dismissively. “Boys that age have phases,” he insisted. I longed to believe him, but his explanation felt hollow. A busy flower shop full of strangers wasn’t the right setting to push the issue.
As my fingers traced the cool petals of a rose, I steered the conversation back to Liam’s peculiar behavior.
Marcus’s Rationalization
Perhaps it’s just the onset of puberty. Liam’s conduct seemed to go far beyond a simple growth spurt. His easygoing reply made me uneasy, and though I gave a small nod, I remained unconvinced. The flowers offered a momentary distraction, but I vowed to investigate further, regardless of how plausible Marcus’s reasoning sounded.
Marcus maintained his lighthearted tone: “You know how they are, one moment they’re beaming, the next they’re serious.” His nonchalance didn’t sit right with me.
