The news wasn’t surprising, but hearing it confirmed verbally was painful. Subjects where he previously excelled had now become a struggle. I thanked her for her honesty, mentally cataloging every detail. It was obvious that Liam was grappling with something more significant than simple moodiness.
The teacher added: “It’s not just an issue of scores.” Imagining Liam, who was normally so outgoing, feeling isolated became unbearable. I nodded, more resolute than ever to uncover the truth and resolve the issue immediately, for his well-being.
“Liam has also become somewhat of an outcast in the schoolyard; it seems his peers are avoiding him.” A lump formed in my throat as I pictured him all alone.
