A figure didn’t just emerge; it poured out of the ceiling.

It was a man, skeletal and unnervingly flexible. He didn’t use a ladder; he braced his limbs against the walls, descending with the fluid, silent grace of a predator. He was shirtless, his skin a sickly, translucent grey from weeks out of the sun.
In the video, he didn’t steal. He didn’t break things. He sat on the edge of Elena’s bed, his weight so evenly distributed that the mattress barely dipped. For two agonizing hours, he hovered inches from her throat, rhythmically stroking the air above her pulse point. At one point, he picked up her wedding ring from the nightstand, placed it in his mouth, held it there for several minutes, and then spat it back into the tray with a wet click.
He didn’t leave through the door. He climbed back into the narrow HVAC duct, disappearing into the guts of the house.
