The truth began to unravel on a Friday evening. Yamiris was leaving the building late after a grueling meeting. As he walked toward the parking lot, he noticed a single light still glowing in the ground-floor office.
Curious as to why anyone would be staying late on a Friday, he decided to investigate. As he entered the room, he heard a strange sound coming from near one of the desks.
He walked closer and gasped. On the desk sat a simple kitchen knife, and something was moving slightly underneath the table. For a second, he feared an intruder.
“Don’t be afraid, sir,” a voice whispered from the shadows. It was Mishka. She was tucked under the table, hiding an electric stove she had been using to cook a meager meal.
