The delivery room was a whirlwind of activity. Monitors beeped, nurses rushed to grab towels, and the air was thick with urgency. Nurse Elise held the shaking hand of 19-year-old Olivia as she pushed through yet another contraction. Sweat poured down her face, her eyes anxiously scanning the door as though she was waiting for someone to rush in.
“You’re doing great,” Elise murmured, gently squeezing her hand. Olivia nodded, silent and filled with fear. When the final cry echoed, the doctor caught the baby and announced, “It’s a girl.” For a brief moment, relief crossed Olivia’s face. But then the doctor asked softly, “Who’s the father?”
The question shattered her composure. Olivia’s body trembled, and she broke down in uncontrollable sobs. The doctor froze, the clipboard suspended in the air. Elise instinctively moved closer, wrapping her arm around Olivia, offering comfort as her tears soaked through the scrubs, heavy with more than just pain.
