The Clever Ruse: Outsmarting the Invaders
With danger closing in from all sides, a desperate strategy sparked in Elias’s mind. If they couldn’t fight the pirates, they could at least manipulate what the pirates saw. “Follow my lead,” Elias whispered.
As the speedboats drew nearer, both pilots sprang into action. Elias forced the seaplane’s nose downward, making it look as if the aircraft was slowly taking on water. The listing motion added to the illusion—an aircraft moments away from sinking beneath the waves.
Ravi caught on immediately. He grabbed the radio and began issuing frantic, disjointed transmissions—half words, static bursts, and feigned confusion—creating the perfect image of a crew in total disarray. He slammed switches dramatically, letting the pirates see just how “out of control” things seemed.
The men on the boats hesitated. Their engines dropped to an idle, and the circling slowed. The pirates watched carefully, unsure whether this crippled machine held anything worth their effort—or whether it was moments away from being swallowed by the sea. Elias kept the performance going, exaggerating movements, letting the plane bob and dip unnervingly. Ravi muttered curses and fake pleas into the mic, sounding exactly like a man on the brink of losing hope. For a moment, time stood still.

Then—
A thunderous vibration rolled across the water.
From behind the shimmering horizon, a Coast Guard helicopter burst into view, rotor blades slicing through the sky. The spotlight swept across the ocean, locking onto the pirate boats.
The reaction was instant.
Shouts erupted from the speedboats. Engines roared to life. The pirates spun their vessels sharply and tore away across the water, vanishing in seconds in a frantic spray of white foam. Elias slumped back in relief.
“They bought it,” he said, voice trembling. And for the first time since the emergency began, survival felt within reach.
