The Illegal Demolition
The next morning, Sophia was jolted awake by a cacophony of banging and cracking. She looked out her window and gasped. Brenda hadn’t just gotten angry; she had hired a crew. They were swinging heavy sledgehammers, tearing down Sophia’s new fence like it was made of matchsticks.
“STOP IT!” Sophia yelled, rushing outside in disbelief. “You can’t destroy my property!”
Brenda watched from the cool shade of her porch, a smug, satisfied look on her face. “You left me no choice,” she called out casually.
Sophia immediately called the police, only to be told it was a “civil property dispute” and she needed to contact an attorney. Powerless, Sophia was forced to stand by, watching every plank of her privacy fence be reduced to rubble. She swallowed the urge to fight, to scream, or to cry. Instead, she stood perfectly still, a slow, calculated fire igniting in her eyes.
Sophia didn’t need to fight dirty. She had a secret weapon far more powerful than a sledgehammer: the law.
